Bleed explained

Bleed extends your background colours and images beyond the trim edge. When the press cuts to finished size, slight variation in cut position is normal — bleed prevents a white strip appearing at the edge.

Safe zone explained

Keep all important content (text, logos, contact details) inside the safe zone — at least 3mm from the trim edge. Content too close to the edge risks being cut off.

Setting up in Canva

Set your Canva document to the bleed size. Enable "Show print bleed" in View settings. On export, choose PDF Print and enable "Crop marks and bleed". Keep all content inside the trim guides.

Setting up in Illustrator

Set your artboard to the finished size. In Document Setup, enter 3mm bleed on all sides. Create guides 3mm inside the artboard for the safe zone. Export PDF with marks and bleeds enabled.
