What is 300 DPI?
300 DPI (dots per inch) is the standard for commercial print. At this resolution, the human eye cannot distinguish individual ink dots at normal reading distance, giving a sharp, professional result.
Why does Canva export at 72 DPI?
Canva's default PNG and "PDF Standard" exports are optimised for screen display at 72 DPI. Always choose PDF Print in Canva for print-ready files. This exports at 300 DPI equivalent.
Large format print
For banners and signage viewed from a distance, 150 DPI at full size is often acceptable. The further the viewing distance, the lower the required DPI — but 300 DPI is still recommended for any close-up printed material.
Upscaling doesn't help
Increasing the DPI setting in Photoshop without resampling doesn't add detail — it just changes the embedded metadata. Only real pixel information counts. If your image is too low resolution, it needs to be replaced with a higher-res version.
