Background

What an interesting few years we have experienced, and what will come in store for 2023. You have no doubt been bombarded in your feeds about AI, but may not be sure how it affects your business..
The truth is we have been living amongst AI for many years.

The difference is the rapid expansion over the last few years.. No one has a crystal ball for the future, but like with the industrial revolution, there was rapid change in the way we did things, and a shift in people’s professions and employment.

This article is not to praise or shun the use of AI, rather to provide some personal perspective on the use case of how it can be beneficial for small businesses to save some of your marketing budget… so you can spend it with us on premium promotional gear for your customers 😊

Copywriting

One could argue that the ‘tone’ a human writes is individual and as it is spontaneous, could not be replicated. It has been said because of the quality of copy generated from the likes as chat GPT, that it will never amount to a shadow of what a talented person can create..
The thing is, it is a baby, learning and it is in it’s infancy. The more people use it, the stronger it grows.. and recently that has become exponential.
Who do we have to thank for this? South Park of course.

When a business needs copy, whether to accompany an advert, generate text for a website, flyer or to create a capability statement, you either do it inhouse, or hire a professional.
Ove the years, I have worked with very talented copywriters, the problem has been that they seem to vanish when you need them most. Now, to be fair, this is not a blanket statement on all copywriter businesses, rather than my personal experience when trying to facilitate clients needs.

In the following example, I used Chat GPT, I simply typed “How has Ai changed the path for graphic designers and marketers?”

Artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly impacted the fields of graphic design and marketing, bringing about various changes and innovations. Here are some ways in which AI has influenced these industries:

  1. Automation of Repetitive Tasks:
Graphic designers and marketers often deal with repetitive tasks such as resizing images, creating variations of designs, or managing social media posts. AI-powered tools can automate these mundane tasks, allowing professionals to focus on more creative aspects of their work.
  2. Personalization:
AI enables marketers to personalize content for specific target audiences. Machine learning algorithms analyze user data to understand preferences, behaviors, and demographics, helping designers and marketers create tailored graphics and campaigns that resonate with individuals on a more personal level.
  3. Image and Video Editing:
AI tools like Adobe's Photoshop AI, Google's Deep Dream, and various others can automate image and video editing processes. These tools can enhance images, remove background noise, and even generate entirely new visuals based on input criteria, saving time for designers and marketers.
  4. Data Analysis and Insights:
Marketers leverage AI for data analysis, helping them understand consumer behavior, market trends, and the performance of their campaigns. This data-driven approach allows for more informed decision-making in designing and implementing marketing strategies.
  5. Chatbots and Virtual Assistants:
AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants enhance customer engagement on websites and social media. These tools can be designed with a visually appealing interface, integrating graphic design principles. They provide immediate responses to user queries, improving the overall customer experience.
  6. Predictive Analytics:
AI algorithms can predict future trends based on historical data. In marketing, this helps professionals anticipate consumer needs and behaviors, allowing for proactive campaign planning and design adjustments.
  7. Content Creation:
AI-generated content is becoming more prevalent. Tools like OpenAI's GPT-3 can create written content, including marketing copy, product descriptions, and even social media posts. While this doesn't replace the need for human creativity, it can assist in generating ideas and initial drafts.
  8. Dynamic Content Optimization:
AI tools can dynamically optimize content based on user interactions and preferences. This is particularly useful in A/B testing scenarios, where different versions of graphics or marketing content are automatically tested to identify the most effective ones.
  9. Facilitating Collaboration:
AI-powered collaboration tools streamline workflows for graphic designers and marketers. These tools can assist in project management, version control, and communication, fostering more efficient teamwork.
  10. Enhanced Targeting in Advertising:
AI enables more precise audience targeting in advertising. Marketers can use AI algorithms to identify and target specific demographics, ensuring that their graphics and messages reach the most relevant audience.

In summary, AI has brought about automation, personalization, data-driven decision-making, and enhanced creativity in the fields of graphic design and marketing, revolutionizing the way professionals approach their work.

SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) copy
Now let’s compare copywriting, a nobal art of a person crafting a story about a business and compare it to the plethora of webpages created out there with the sole reason of getting google to rank a website better...
Now ask yourself, how much have you paid for SEO article writing?

Images

Simply put, marketing and graphic design is all about communication… An effective campaign is when you can communicate effectively and efficiently. if you want something to look good, you need accompanying photos or artwork. Media is used to break up copy to help the reader digest more.
It goes even further to this as to the level of media that you add. Most small businesses rely on stock photography. An image may cost may cost between $15-$50.
Compare this to a large business with big marketing budget, they may be paying a photographer 10-100k for a shoot… or .. if 3D animation is sold, it could be over a $1M..

I have used Midjourney to illustrate the effectiveness of AI inn image generation. Midjourney is an AI bot within the chat program/ platform ‘Discord’. Essentially, you sign up for an account and simply type in commands… seconds later you are provided 4 variants of the image. For this example, I’m simply going to provide screen shots of what other users are requesting and the outcomes:

a bed headboard made out of antique pipeorgan pipes
using AI to generate realistic images

This example was created in 5 seconds. Selecting one of the 4 generated images, provides an upchaled image at 1024 x 1024px… Now this is where is was quite limited.. up until around the start of November 23, when you could upscale 4x… This takes a minute or two to render, but in this result = 4096 x 4096 px

Now lets look into another side of this that is ruffling some feathers… In this instance a user is trying to mimick a famous artist

by banksy, bear, fluffy, cute illustration, bear have a balloon, graffitied wall --aspect 9:16

You may note the camera settings .. There are many parameters that can be played with

And another that shows that in 10 seconds, essentially, a whole industry and artists in general possibly will have a bleak future.
