Font Pairing for Print

Curated font combinations that work reliably in commercial print. Each pair includes live previews, style notes, minimum size recommendations, and Canva availability.

Minimum sizes for print

Body text: minimum 8pt (ideally 9–11pt) for readability in print. Fine print (disclaimers, addresses): minimum 6pt. Anything under 5pt will not reproduce reliably on a commercial press.

Serif vs Sans-serif

Serif fonts (with small strokes at letter ends — like Garamond) work well for long body text in print. Sans-serif fonts (like Montserrat) work well for headings and short text. Mixing one of each is the classic pairing strategy.

Avoid thin weights for print

Ultra-light font weights (100–200) that look elegant on screen often disappear or become patchy in print — especially on uncoated stock. Use weights 300 or heavier for any text that needs to be legible.

Canva font availability

Not all Google Fonts are available in Canva. This guide notes which pairs are available in Canva's font library — useful if you're designing for print in Canva.
