If you have a high end brand that offers a membership program, Metal cards must be considered.
The problem that many face with these types of programs is when only a small amount of cards need to be sent at a given time.
As membership cards require variable data (different name, different membership number, different expiry date etc), this prohibits the factory to supply the job as a completed product.

This can be done relatively easy with plastic cards as there are affordable plastic card printers, however they use ‘ribbons’ which are a high cost per card to brand either the whole card, or overprint the variable information.
This is why we came up with this product. Essentially the job is split into two components.

1. Shell card. The shell card is the base card that can include most of the metal card branding options (printing / etching / deep etching / Die cutting etc).
   Note : Only matt black plated metal card shells can be used for quick turnaround variable engraving.
2. Express variable engraving. This allows an order of ‘Shell cards’ to be made up and kept at our office.
   This way, when you have an order ready, we can variable laser engrave these details onto the shell cards within 1-3 business days (estimate).

How to create a QR code:

1. Generate a QR code by using Adobe's Free online QR generator
2. Enter your URL in the field box.
3. In ‘File Format’ tab, select SVG and download.
4. Canva: Upload the QR code: File > Upload Files > Drag and drop the QR code into your design.
   Adobe Illustrator: File > Open > Copy & Paste element into your design.
   Adobe InDesign: Skip the above steps , InDesign creates QR codes within the program (Object > Generate QR Code...).

TEST SCAN - Make sure the QR code is big enough to scan easily!
We recommend printing out at 100% size (do not scale) on your office printer.
If you cannot do this, zoom your screen to approx 100% of the physical card size.

FAQs.

How thick are Metal name cards?

We offer a range of metal thickness from 0.3mm to 0.8mm. If you are after a card with next to no flexibility, 0.5mm is a good benchmark.

What is Vector?

‘Vector’ artwork allows modifying of artwork without compromising it. It also allows scaling it without loss of quality.
Generally vector artwork is within .AI, .SVG, .EPS, .PDF files. You can tell if artwork is vector by zooming in 6,000%. If it pixelates, it is NOT in a vector / editable format.
If it 'redraws' or consists of the same quality, the artwork has been made in a vector fomat.
PNG or JPG are Bitmap files (made from pixels) and are NOT vector / editable.
Photoshop cannot create vector artwork, Illustrator can.

How will my artwork look when printed on Metal name cards ?

What size options are available for Metal name cards?

The metal business card standard size is 85 x 54mm. We can make the cards any size within 85 x 54mm.

Do you offer rounded corners?

The metal cards come standard with rounded corners. We can do square edge, however this is not recommended as metal = sharp and can easily cut.

Can we add multiple print finishing such as deep ethch and etching ?

Yes. Please get in contact and we will happily advise of the options and provide quick pricing over the phone or via email. It is always best if you can provide sample artwork.

What’s the reason for so many artwork requirements?

Hands down, if you want quality, it starts with quality artwork. Many people do not consider how colour on screen translates to ink on paper. Rich Black is the perfect example. Using too much CMY with K can cause a muddy brown result. This is because there is simply too much ink going onto the card. The different card products we offer use different CMYK values to create the best rich black for the specific card.

Print finishing artwork need to be ‘vector’ / editable. This is because elements need to be modified to ensure a great result. In the instance of foil stamping or embossing, a metal block needs to me made. It is impossible to do this from pixel based artwork. Please do not send PNG or JPG files. These type of file formats are pixel based and not editable. Further details are provided in the ‘artwork’ tab.

How do I supply artwork for Metal name Cards?

When you submit your PDF, it should contain different pages for each process. For example, page 1 is the front print. The second page is the front finishing . This page needs to use editable / vector artwork. The third page is a ‘sample’. It is not necessarily required but recommended to indicate how the combined front finishing and front print look. This can also show misalignment of the different pages (if you copy paste correctly).The last page is the back print. More information about this process can be found in the ‘artwork’ tab
